No matter what we feel like on any given morning, the truth remains that God’s mercies are new every morning! I am not, nor have I ever been a morning person. Unlike my husband who wakes up early and is ready to face the day with joy, I tend to procrastinate, often running late and otherwise trying to put off the morning. Sunday nights begin my dread of the morning that is yet to come. On a recent school morning, I was pulling out of my driveway, in a hurry, as usual, struggling to greet the beginning of the day. (Now, mind you once I get to school my attitude changes and I go about my day usually as happy as can be.) But on this particular morning, I was taken by what I saw in my rearview mirror as I was about to pull away. There in the fields surrounding my home, was the image of the picture I have posted here. I decided that I needed to stop right then and there and take the picture. In the freshly harvested field was a thin layer of fog, huddled close to the ground, and in the distance, the sun was just beginning to rise above the trees on the horizon. The words of an old hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness came to mind. “…Morning by morning new mercies I see, all I have needed, thy hand hath provided, Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!” Found in Lamentations 3:22-23 we read, The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. There it was, the answer to my dread of mornings. Regardless of the fog in my morning brain, the sun was on the rise and waiting for me to embrace the new day. God is there to give whatever I might need for that day.
